Melin Maelgwyn (Melin Uchaf)

Melin Maelgwyn, also known as Melin Uchaf (Upper Mill) at Bryndu is close to the village of Llanfaelog not far from Ty Croes railway station.

This is one of two former windmills at Bryndu, the other, Melin Y Bont is about a mile to the south.

Many local windmills had a stone tablet set in the tower with initials and a date and this is no exception. The initials O R K and the date 1789 show that it was built about 30 years before the nearby mill Melyn Y Bont.

It is believed that the mill stopped turning by the aid of wind about 80 years ago but continued to grind corn with the assistance of a diesel generator.
