Melin yr Ogof Windmill - Holyhead

Melin yr Ogof windmill in Holyhead is the only unrestored windmill left in Wales to house all its original equipment.

Melin yr Ogof windmill also known as St. George’s mill is situated in Kingsland Holyhead on a raised piece of ground over looking the leisure centre.

The only fully restored windmill in Wales is also on Anglesey approximately 10 miles away Melin Llynnon windmill is a popular tourist attraction and sells some amazing cakes there too!

You will see the old windmill on the left hand side as you arrive into Holyhead at the end of the Trearddur bay road (B4545) Ironically enough the mills address is Mill road.

In the winter of 1939 a severe storm dislodged the cap and the sail ribs.

As this was deemed dangerous, it was removed, and in order to protect the original machinery, the hole that was left in the roof after it was removed was concreted over and still remains that way today.

This old windmill is currently up for sale with a local estate agent.
