Dinas Dinlle Beach

Looking down on Dinas Dinlle beach

The beach at Dinas Dinlle is a great place to visit and easily accessed from the Caernarfon to Pwllheli road (A499) via the turn off at Llandwrog.

The beach has a promenade which is ideal for the elderly or disabled in wheelchairs and is about quarter of a mile long so not to long if your looking for a shortish walk.

The beach itself comprises of large smooth rounded pebble on the upper part and at low tide you have a long flat sandy beach which is really broad.

There are some amazing views down the Llyn Peninsular and across to the Isle of Anglesey, if you look carefully you will be able to see the lighthouse on Llanddwyn Island.

Roman Hill Fort at Dinas Dinlle

The Roman hill fort at Dinas Dinlle is owned by the National Trust. The Iron age hill fort is quite large approximately 164 yards by 120 yards, quite a large section of it has now eroded into the sea.

In 2019 Archaeological excavations took place and the remains of a roundhouse was found. The roundhouse which is about 13 meters wide was buried by coastal sand from sandstorm in 1330.

Coins and pottery found at the roundhouse suggest that it was occupied by the Romans during 200 to 300AD while the fort is thought to be from the Iron Age, which dates from around 800BC to 43AD.

HM Coastguard helicopter at Caernarfon Airport

Caernarfon Airport

Caernarfon Airport is barely a mile from Dinas Dinlle, if you can see the large wind turbines, they are just the other side of the runway, very close to the airport.

Caernarfon Airport, the former RAF Llandwrog base is now used for pleasure flight and pilot training.

This small but sometimes very busy airport is also the home for HM Coastguard rescue helicopter and our local Air Ambulance.

If you’re looking for a pleasure flight, down the Menai Strait or over the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia then this is the place to come! If you’re an aviation enthusiast then this is a great place to see planes, helicopters and microlight aircraft taking of and landing.

Dinas Dinlle beach is on the Gwynedd County Council list for restricted dog access.

As you arrive at Dinas Dinlle the car parks are directly on your left after you pass the childrens play park.

You cant really miss them, but be warned they can get quite busy during the summer months.
